Instructor Profiles
It is one of Self Defence NZ’s goals to get into Secondary Schools in NZ, and run educational programmes aimed at our young women To teach them Skills and Situational Awareness.
We wish to teach our young women how to have a ‘course of action’ to take in order to avoid or extract themselves from hostile situations.
Self Defence NZ Is going to run 2 hour Introduction Seminars at schools, which will focus on creating confidence and self awareness. There will be discussions on a variety of situations and how to deal with them.
During the Seminars techniques will be taught for breaking contact and for how to defend themselves. These will be demonstrated and practiced in the 2 hour Seminars and are a lead into the full day Courses for Young women.

Introduction 2 Hours Seminar
Objectives of the 2 hour Seminar
At the end of the Introduction Seminar you will have:
• An understanding of the concepts of Self Defence and Situational Awareness.
• Leant physical Self Defence techniques.
• Leant how to extract yourself from difficult situations
Subject covered during these Seminars are:
• Situational Awareness
• Personal Safety
• Self confidence
• Expand self awareness
• Make informed choices
• Learn new skills
• Learn practical strategies
• How to avoid confrontation
• Develop intuition
• Defining Social Boundaries
• Become assertive

• Public areas
• Social settings
• Car safety
• Travel
• Home safety
Discussion groups
During the Course there will be discussions on a variety of possible scenarios & Situations.
Self Defence Physical Techniques
Physical skills will be taught and practised for Contact Breaking and Self Defence.
(These will be taught at a basic Introductory Level where no prior skill are required.)
Level 1 Young Women’s Self Defence One Day Course
Objectives of the 1 day Course
At the end of the 1 day Course you will have:
• Increase confidence and self assurance.
• Learn strategies for facing and dealing with conflicts.
• Learn practical skills for dealing with a multitude of situations, where personal safety is
threatened.
• Learn how to stand up without aggression and to assess unsafe situations.
• Gain confidence to stand up for yourself, to make positive decisions and take actions according
to the demands of the situation.
Pre-course requirement
There is a pre-course requirement that participants must have attended one of the Intro Seminars, as the course leads on from the Intro Seminar.
During the first part of this Stage 1 One Day Course, there will be revision of information and techniques learnt at the Introduction Seminar.

Car Safety
Public areas
Social settings

Computer and Mobiles phones
Discussions
During the One Day Courses, there will be discussions on many possible scenarios & situations
Self Defence Techniques
Techniques will be taught and practiced dealing with many common scenarios.
These will be taught at a Beginners Level, from basic, avoiding pushes, to how to defence against an attack.
